On April 23rd, in the lab at Xi’an Jiaotong University’s Institute of Medical and Engineering Research, a magical scene unfolded: researchers wearing caps embedded with electrodes were able to control the drone with their minds, making it take flight based on their thoughts.
这一神奇的科技来自西安交通大学教授徐光华的团队。徐光华介绍,他们的团队致力于脑机交互技术研究,目前已经开发了一系列脑机交互设备如控制轮椅、电脑打字等。随着研究深入,他们也开始研发脑机交互操作无人机。
This achievement came from the team led by Xuguanghua, a professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University. Xu explained that their team is dedicated to research on brain-computer interaction technology, and they have already developed a series of brain-computer interaction devices such as controlling wheelchairs and typing on a computer. As their next endeavor, they have begun using brain-computer interfaces to operate drones.
据了解,人脑拥有超过100亿个神经元。人在思维活动中,相应的神经元和细胞工作会产生电信号的改变,这些神奇的脑电波信号被有效收集后,为脑机交互技术实施、最终实现“意念控制”提供了技术支撑。
The human brain has over 10 billion neurons. During cognitive activities, specific neurons can generate changes in electrical signals. When these remarkable brainwave signals are effectively collected, the implicit information they contain provides the possibility of reading the mind and, ultimately, facilitating interaction between the brain and machines.
用脑机交互控制系统打字也是实验室的研究成果之一。只见实验员戴上布满电极的帽子,双眼看到电脑屏幕上的拼音后,对应注视这一位置上的特制“电位图”,屏幕上就会出现读音相同的汉字,只要移动目光选中你要的汉字,电脑屏幕的汉字会被有序输入其中。
Typing with the brain-machine interaction control system is also one of the research accomplishments in the lab. In this setup, experimenters need to wear a cap with electrodes and focus on the desired Pinyin displayed on the computer screen. By decoding the 'potential map' corresponding to different locations on the screen, Chinese characters with the same pronunciation appear on the screen. Experimenters can simply move their gaze to select the desired Chinese character, and the characters are sequentially input into the computer.
徐光华表示,神经科技在医学临床领域和社会其他领域有很重要的作用。有关基于“脑机交互”的系统和设备已经在诸多领域实践,应用前景十分广阔。
